The Village of Streamwood needed to understand the impacts a new Fresh Express food processing facility would have on Village collection system services as well as flow being transported to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) for treatment. RJN Group, Inc. assisted the Village with this analysis, which involved flow monitoring and hydraulic modeling/analysis, to develop a sound approach for providing increased wastewater services for the new facility. Working closely with MWRD, the Village, and Fresh Express, RJN developed a solution that involved construction of a wastewater storage facility to service high flow fluctuations associated with plant operations. The new facilities were designed and constructed under an engineer-led Design-Build contract, providing Fresh Express with a set guaranteed maximum price that met their tight “operations live” schedule. Construction was substantially completed under budget within three months of obtaining the construction permit.
